Notes for Henry NELSON

[wright.FTW]

[Copy of Nelson.FTW]

Henry volunteered and joined the 40th NJ Regiment, Co G. In July of 1865 he was listed as a deserter. He had met his brothers James and Joseph whose outfit was headed back to New Jersey, and he simply went home with them. This desertion was later expunged and Henry, and later his widow, received a federal pension. He is buried in the Groveville Methodist Cemetery, and we recently obtained a GAR headstone for him because his old stone is getting hard to read. There are no known children of Henry and Hannah. widow's pension application states that she has no children.

In 1870, Henry and Hannah had Hannah's brother George age 28 in their household. Also Charles James, age 7 months. In 1880 their household still included Charles S James, age 17, works in cotton mill. No relationship to the Nelsons is expressed.
