NELSON ELISHA 3 REG'T (FRELINGHUYEN'S) NEW JERSEY MILITTIA. PRIVATE PRIVATE 152 602 ,
birthdate: 1797, according to Records of Officers & Men of NJ in Wars 1791-1815. Pub. Trenton NJ 1909. Page 110. Can't be right.
War of 1812 with Capt. John Perrine's Co.of Infantry
Third Regiment NJ Detailed Militia Monmouth County
Rank-Private Com.or enrolled Sep. 19, 1814 Discharged Dec. 2, 1814
1830 census, Monmouth co NJ page 355. Elish. Nelson age 40-50, wife age 30-40. Sons under 5:1, 10-15:1, 15-20:2. Daughter bet 5-10: 1
I don't find him in 1840. In 1850 and 1860 he is in Hamilton Twp, Mercer Co. NJ in the home of John and Ann, or Emma A. Ginglen. He is not in their home in 1870, nor in the home of his sons Robert & James.
John Ginglen purchased the Yardville Hotel in 1833 and sold it about 1848. It is possible that Elisha was working at the hotel and stayed on when Ginglen bought it.
Andrew's will states that Elisha will have the use of one half his land in Upper Freehold Twp until his youngest son reaches the age of 21, yet he does not appear in the 1840 census for Monmouth County. Since the 1830 was alphabetized by the original census taker, there is no way to find the neighborhood from that census.
