Notes for Antoninette XAIZ

Salt Lake Tribune, The (UT) - April 16, 1998
Deceased Name: Antoinette X. Pannunzio
TOOELE, Utah--Antoinette Xaiz Pannunzio, age 75, respected and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, left this earth to be with her God, and husband, April 14, 1998.

She fought a valiant battle with her illnesses for four years with dignity and courage.

Antoinette was born Sept 5, 1922 in Highland Boy, Bingham Canyon, to John and Celeste Case Xaiz. She married Henry Pannunzio Sr., December 16, 1937 at the Holy Cross Rosary Catholic Church in Bingham Canyon, Utah. Antoinette had an uncanny ability to remember dates and events and would often relate to her family the wonderful fun times she had as a child growing up in the mountains of Highland Boy. At the young age of 13, Antoinette moved to Salt Lake City to nanny for the Drazich family, eventually moving with them to Tooele, where she met her future husband, Henry. As a young woman, Antoinette worked at Tooele Army Depot in various positions, including driving and testing combat tanks, eventually retiring in the early 70's. She was a charter member of the Tooele Eagles Auxiliary, where she held the position of Madam President from 1958 to 1959. She was an active member of the Eagles, traveling the western United States, performing and coaching in ritual competitions. She won several awards, both as a competitor and coach, which she took great pride in. Antoinette had a talent for crochet work. She won many awards for her afghans and crochet work at the local county fair. She would freely give gifts of her work to many of her friends. Numerous doilies and sun catchers grace the furniture and windows of many Tooele homes. Antoinette was a hard worker all of her life, giving her self freely, whether attending to the sick or picking onions in the fields. She had a zest for life and lived it with pride and dignity, always making sure she looked her best. She will be sorely missed.

The family would like to thank Dr. W.F. Reilly, Cara, Kathy, nurses and staff at the Salt Lake Clinic for their care, support and compassion for our mother.

Antoinette leaves behind her daughter, Mrs. Fil (Bill) Ahlstrom; sons, John, of Tooele; and Henry Jr., of Salt Lake City; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brother and sisters: Mr. Feno Xaiz, Mrs. Pena Scorzato, Mrs. Virginia Dokos, all of Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by her husband, Henry Sr.; brothers, Pete, Ernest, Johnny; and sister, Olive.
