OWEN DUNFEE, 78, of Pine Island, Fla., formerly of NEPTUNE CITY, died yesterday at MediCenter Nursing Home, Neptune City. He was a transportation supervisor with the Army National Guard, retiring as a master sergeant in 1980. He was a member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4353, Pine Island, Fla., and a life member and ex-chief of United Fire Company 1, Neptune City. Born in South Belmar, he lived in Neptune City before moving to Pine Island 20 years ago.

His wife, Shirley Brower Dunfee, died in 1997. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Owen and Cheryl Dunfee of Neptune City two daughters and sons-in-law, Stella and Glen Hulsart, and Shirley and Harry Conover, all of Neptune City a sister, Doris Poland of Lakewood seven grandchildren, Robert, Richard, Christine, Owen, Kelly, Harry and Doug and seven great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Route 138, Wall. The Neptune City Fire Department will have a service at 8 p.m. A funeral service will be offered 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations to United Fire Company 1, Neptune City, would be appreciated.
